WHO WE ARE

It’s news to no one that society imposes values and expectations on women that are rarely more than skin deep. All too often, we are judged by our outer, superficial selves, and our real beauty – that which lies within us – goes unnoticed. Even though we intuitively know our real value and the beauty of our inner spirit, the weight of it all can sometimes make even the strongest of us weary. And that’s where Able Women comes in.

Able Women's mission is to connect women to the healing power of water inspired by a personally defined relationship with fly fishing. Fly fishing teaches independence, strength, and creativity. It is a sport very much defined by grace. And who understands grace better than a woman? Fly fishing binds us to astoundingly beautiful creatures that live in remarkably beautiful places. And fly fishing binds us – perhaps most importantly of all – to our inner, most beautiful selves.

Able Women is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) Colorado non-profit organization. All proceeds go to the Able Women Foundation, Inc.

Board of Directors

Every member of our board of directors is a thought leader who makes significant contributions to our organization and the fly fishing community. Each one brings a unique set of skills and expertise to our organization.

Whitney Silva

Whitney has been a board member supporting Able Women since 2018. She is a licensed clinical social worker and program manager at a community mental health clinic, and a native of Western Colorado. Whitney says, “It’s Able Women’s mission that inspires me to participate on this board…My best hope for Able Women is to inspire other women to find that sense of wellness and connection to nature, on their own terms.”

Colleen Aller

Colleen joined the AWFF board in 2020. She grew up in a family of anglers who love the outdoors. Colleen loves chasing brook trout in high mountain rivers and lakes in the west. Her love of fly fishing and her passion for the outdoors led her to a very purposeful involvement with Able Women Fly Fishing Foundation.

Lori Tucker-Eccher,

Lori is a Certified Master Coach, author, and proud mom of two grown children. She grew up in Colorado and Utah with a great love of spending time with family doing anything outside. She says, "I enjoy empowering others to embrace fly fishing and experience wild places for their own enjoyment and also so that they fully know how important it is to protect them."

Seeking Able Women

Has fly fishing already touched your life in a powerful way? If so, we’d like to hear from you. You don’t have to be the most accomplished fly fisherwoman ever to cast a line. That’s really not what we’re about. Instead, we want to know how fly fishing has positively shaped your life. And as interest in Able Women grows, we’ll need to grow our team to help spread the word. Who knows, you may be our next great addition!

Ambassador Application

Thank you for your interest in the Able Women Ambassador Team! We’d like to learn about your relationship with fly fishing and — in particular– the role it’s played in your life. To help us better understand these things, please answer the questions below. Once we receive your application, we’ll review it and follow up within two weeks of its receipt. Again, our sincere thanks for your interest.

Members of the Able Women Ambassador Team serve as unpaid public endorsers of the Able Women Foundation by spreading the word of the physical and emotional benefits that fly fishing brings to its participants. Ambassadors are involved in the following activities:

  • Making occasional appearances at various events across the country, including community service events, education events, and trade-shows.
  • Speaking before various audiences about their relationship with fly fishing and describing the role it's played in their life.
  • Occasionally spending a day on the water with a new AWFF member as a mentor and friend
  • Representing the many positive benefits of fly fishing in their individual activities and via their own personal social media feeds by using the hashtag #ablewomenflyfish.
Finally, while the Able Women Foundation, Inc. by no means enforces a strict “code of conduct,” Ambassadors are required to sign a publicity contract as representatives of the Foundation and its sponsors. In particular, Ambassadors are responsible for acting as spokeswomen for how fly fishing can influence a healthy life. Ambassadors are, in effect, role models of healthy living. We ask you to be conscious of this in filling out your application.
